MeshCore Live

A trip to California, and a look at how busy a mesh can get.

San Francisco Bay, September 2026

In September 2026 I traveled to California and brought my Heltec power bank along, running MeshCore. I clipped it to a chair on the balcony, with a view toward San Francisco Bay, and let it listen.

Within two days it had picked up more than 250 contacts. I was impressed by how active the mesh is in California, and the video shows why.

  • 250+ contacts in two days
  • 838 nodes on the Bay Area map
  • 200+ packets in under 20 seconds

What you are seeing

The video is a 20-second screen recording of a live MeshCore network map. Each dot is a node, from San Francisco and Oakland down to San Jose and Santa Cruz. Each line and ring is a message being passed along the mesh, and the packet counter at the top climbs past 200 before the clip ends.
