My adventure
My flight on The Monster
We went to Toro Verde to celebrate my father-in-law George’s 85th birthday. And yes: at 85, George rode The Monster too.
I wasn’t supposed to ride. At the last minute my wife told me her back was hurting and I had to take her place. I told her I couldn’t, that tennis shoes were required and I only had sandals. “Don’t worry,” she said, “I packed an extra pair for you.” I will never forget that 🙂
My biggest concern at the start was what would happen at the end if the thing didn’t stop. It stopped. And even though I’m a pilot, at the highest part of the ride I felt freer than ever.
Puerto Rico
Why you have to go
If I invite you to the island, this place is on the list. Toro Verde is in Orocovis, in the mountains of central Puerto Rico, about an hour and 45 minutes from San Juan.
The Monster (El Monstruo) is one of the longest zip lines in the world: two and a half kilometers of cable over the mountains, launching from more than 380 meters up. And if George could do it at 85, so can you.
