I have been in ham radio since a very early age. When I say this is "my first contact", I mean the first one after more than 25 years away from the HF bands. I decided to come back and, honestly, I do not regret it.

First contacts

Back on 20 meters

Where I belong

Making this contact on 20 meters, it did not take me long to realize where I belong: catching up with old friends. Coming back to HF was the right decision.

First contact with Puerto Rico

My first contact with the island of Puerto Rico using the ICOM 7300. What a joy!

Invited to the QSO

I was invited to take part in this QSO and it was a very good experience. Sometimes it is hard for me to finish my QSOs, because there are stations that do not want to miss the chance to make contact with me 🙂

The station

Radio, SDR and antenna

Receiving with an SDR

What I use for receive with the ICOM 7300: a Nooelec preamplifier and an SDRplay SDR. With this I transmit on the 7300 and receive on the SDR.

SDRuno and Omni-Rig

What I see on my computer when I operate the radio. A contact with my friend Ángel, WP3R, in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. Wait until 1:21 to see my first PTT.

The antenna on a windy day

The first time I got scared, because I thought the wire was going to snap. I bought something that gives the wire the freedom to stretch.

How I sound

Recordings by friends

QSO with WA2CID

My station in St. Louis with WA2CID in Brandon, Florida, recorded by KP4TR in Tampa. ICOM 7300, 135-foot end-fed antenna and 100 watts.

From Indiana, by N9TMP

Sent by my friend Raphael, N9TMP, on July 25, 2022. The audio of the ICOM 7300 with the Heil iCM microphone and the Mercury IIIS at 600 watts.

My wire antenna

I never stop being impressed by how well my station and my wire antenna perform. Thanks to Ramón, KP4TR, and Frank, KP4IP, for the recording.
